NEWS / THOUGHTS / RUMOURS FROM THE FRONT
6 June 03 In the final game of the main
mirror tournament, the 744th Grenadier Regiment, of The 711th Infantry
Division commanded by Waleed suffered a Minor defeat after a very close
game with the Henderson Battalion Combat Team, CCB commanded by Glider.
Congratulations to Glider who is the Mirror Tournament champion.
Commiseration's to Waleed.
The tournament is now at an end, and no further updates to this site are planned in the future. I just wish to say thank you to all the players who participated, and wish you all well for the future. Time permitting I would like to run another mirror tournament, perhaps in the autumn of 2003. We shall see........................
1 Feb 03 The final has started.
14 Jan 03 In the semi-final of the main mirror tournament the Kent County Yeomanry commanded by Jaeger were defeated after a very close battle by 744th Grenadier Regiment, of The 711th Infantry Division commanded by Waleed. Waleed goes through the final where he meets Glider. Game planned to start the beginning of February.
1 Jan 03 Happy New Year !!!

29 Sep 02 Games sent out for the start of the tournament semi-finals and the losers mini-tournament final. Deadline for completion, 10 Nov 02.

25 Sep 02 Game No 3 has been adjudicated by myself as complete. The Kent County Yeomanry commanded by Jaeger is the victor.
19 Sep 02 In Game No 1 the 2nd Armored Div. Combat Group A commanded by Warrior was defeated by the744th Grenadier Regiment,of The 711th Infantry Division commanded by Waleed.
10 Sep 02 Game No 2 of the losers mini-tourney, the 1st Armoured Division - Hell on Wheels commanded by Pioneer was defeated bySchwere SS-Panzer Abteilung 101 commanded by Snakerensky. That means the final of the losers MiniTournament will be between The Bard and Snakerensky.
8 Sep 02 In game No 3 the 21st Panzer Division under the command of Liveline 99 suffered a Minor defeat at the hands of the Henderson Battalion Combat Team, CCB commanded by Glider.
7 Sep 02 Back off holiday. In game No 1 of the losers mini-tourney, the 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich under the command of Jimzalabim was defeated by the 2nd Ranger Battalion under the command of The Bard.
31 Aug 02 Off on holiday for a week to sunny (hopefully) Kent. The demo of CMBB should be released whilst I'm away.
15 Aug 02 Most games seem to be progressing along nicely. Major problems with my PC operating system has necessitated a re-load of the operating system . What a pain in the neck.
7 Aug 02 Game No 1 of the 2nd round has been completed. The 111th Panzer Grenadier Regt under the command of Willie & Joe suffered a Minor defeat at the hands of the 2nd Armored Div. Combat Group A commanded by Warrior. The finish of this game concludes the end of the 2nd Round. The draw for the 3rd Round has been made, a new web page created and the game scenarios will be posted out within a day.
27 Jul 02 The semi-finals of the best loser mini-tournament have just been posted out. Hopefully the second round of the main tournament will be completed next week.
25 Jul 02 In game No 3 of the losers mini-tourney, the Grossdeutschland Panzer Diversion under the command of Hagsaeng was defeated by the 43rd Armoured Regt under the command of Snakerensky. The quarter finals of the losers mini-tourney are complete, and the draw has taken place for the semi-finals.
17 Jul 02 3 games have all
been completed together.
In game 3 TG Alexander under the command of Liebchen has been defeated by the 744th Grenadier Regiment, of The 711th Infantry Division, commanded by Waleed.
In game No 4 the 1st Battalion Cameron Highlanders commanded by Hulldown has suffered a Minor Defeat at the hands of SS Kampfgruppe Jaegar commanded by Jaegar.
In game No 4 of the Mini-Tourney, the 3rd Panzergrenadier Company "Tino's Raiders" under the command of Chris Martinowas defeated by the USA 1st Armoured Division - Hell on Wheels commanded Pioneer.
15 Jul 02 Game No 2 of Round 2 has been completed. The 17th Ranger Regt under the command of Swamper had been narrowly defeated by the 11th Panzer Div under the command of Klipp.
11 Jul 02 A number of players have asked that the deadline for the completion of the second round be extended. The revised date is now set as 27th Jul.
9 Jul 02 Game No 2 of the Mini-Tourney has been completed. The 1st Motorised Infantry Division under the command of Bootie has been defeated by the 2nd SS Panzer Div Das Reich under the command of Jimzalabim.
2 Jul 02 Half way thru the time allotted for the 2nd round, looking at the status of the games although a couple are slightly behind the drag curve, hopefully most will be finshed for the deadline of the 20th July.
29 Jun 02 Game No 1 in the
Mini-tournament has been completed. The 8th Panzer Division under
the command of Kil Roy has been defeated by the 2nd Ranger Battalion under
the command of The Bard.
In Round 2 of the main tournament Game No 5 has been completed. The 21st Panzer Division under the command of Liveline99 and the Henderson Battalion Combat Team, CCB under the command of Glider fought each other to a DRAW. I felt the result was just too close to call, as a result both players go through to next round where they will fight each other again. This constitutes a departure from the rules, but hey, I believe that sometimes the following quote applies "Rules are for the guidance of the wise, and the blind obedience of the foolish". If anyone has serious concerns over this decision, please contact me directly so I can explain further.
27 Jun 02 Two games have now been completed. I still need to see the respective end of turn reports before I can announce the results.
25 Jun 02 Testing of one of the new maps is complete with favourable feedback. Small tweak needed to eliminate some rough terrain that ensnared one of the allied vehicles that came on as a reinforcement. My brother-in-law (a bit of a CMBO fan as well) has created 2 mirror maps for me. Testing on one of those with DocSlaughter has just started.
23 Jun 02 On a slightly different topic altogether, I've joined in with the Blitzkrieg CM Mini-Campaign, which looks great fun. http://www.nodejavu.com/CMMCsite/default.asp
18 Jun 02 Testing on the new map is about to begin by 2 players called DocSlaughter and winkelreid.
15 Jun 02 Most games up an
running now in the 2nd round and mini-tournament. Glider and Liveline99
are up to Turn 18 already which is quite impressive !
(the picture here is a screen dump showing Gliders forces in action)
Have finished designing a map for one of the future rounds. Seems okay, but will be appealing for play testers on the Blitzkrieg Message Board, just to make sure.
12 Jun 02 The scenarios for the quarter finals of the best loser mini-tournament have been posted out today, and I see that the first turns have been reported for Round 2 of the main tournament.
11 Jun 02 The draw for the mini-tournament has taken place, 8 players participating. The scenarios will be posted out on the 12 Jun hopefully. Game progress graph page now up and running again.
10 Jun 02 The scenario files
for Round 2 have been constructed and posted out to the relevant Axis players.
Can I remind all players of the requirement to notify me each time they
process a turn and send it on to their opponent. Good luck everyone,
have an enjoyable second round.
Due to family pressures I have not had time as yet to organize the mini-tournament. I will hopefully sort that in the next 2 days.
We have our first posting on the message forum.
8 Jun 02 Game No 9 in
Round 1 has been completed. The 67th Infantry Division commanded
by Kil Roy was defeated by SS Kampfgruppe Jaegar commanded by Jaegar.
All the games in Round 1 have now been completed. The tournament now splits into two separate parts. The winners from Round 1 1 go through to Round 2, and the losers from Round 1 (who wish to participate) start a Mini-tournament for the title of the best loser. The draw for Round 2 has taken place, and a web page created. 9 out of the 10 players start Round 2 with the same nationality as they had in Round 1. The draw for the mini-tournament will take place tomorrow.
Now need to start creating the tournament scenario files for the next round. Hopefully they will be completed tomorrow, and posted out to the respective Axis players on the morning of the 10th Jun.
6 Jun 02 Game No 2 of Round 1 has been completed. The 2nd SS Panzer Division 'Das Reich' under the command of Jimzalabim has been defeated by the 2nd Armored Division Combat Group A under the command of Warrior.
3 Jun 02 Game No 10 of Round
1 has been completed. The 22nd Panzer, Afkrica Corp under the command
of Von Hoover suffered a tactical defeat by the 81st Tank Battalion commanded
With the end of Round 1 in sight I am turning my attention to preparing the scenario for Round 2 and the Losers mini-tournament. The scenario has been given the inspired name (chuckle) of "The Vulture's Perch", and takes place on a considerably larger map; four times larger in fact than the "Vulture's Roost".
31 May 02 Game No 3 of Round 1 has been completed. The 2nd Ranger Battalion under the command of The Bard was defeated by the 11th Panzer Div commanded by Klipp.
30 May 02 Three more games
have been completed, well done guys.
In game No 4 of Ropund 1 the 4th Armored Division 'Carolina' under the command of Villon was defeated by the 744th Grenadier Regiment, of The 711th Infantry Division under the command of Waleed.
In game No 6 of the Grossdeutschland Panzer Diversion under the command of Hagsaeng were very narrowly defeated by the 17th Ranger Regt commanded by Swamper
In game No 7 the 3rd Panzergrenadier Company "Tino's Raiders" under the command of Chris Martino was defeated by the Henderson Battalion Combat Team, CCB under the command of Glider.
Created a new page for Round 2.
29 May 02 Willie & Joe has completed an AAR for Game No 8, which can be read on the Players Pages.
28 May 02 The third game of the
tournament has finished. In game No 8 of Round 1 the 1st Motorised
Division commanded by Bootie was defeated by the 111th Panzer Grenadier
Regt commanded by Willie & Joe.
It seems a shame for players to be knocked out so early in the tournament, so I have decided to run a mini-tournament to determine the best looser. All those knocked out in the first round will be eligible to participate should they so wish.
25 May 02 The second game of the tournament has finished. In Game No 5 of Round 1 the 116th Pz. Div.- Greyhound Division commanded by Pioneer was defeated (but only just) by the 1st Battalion Cameron Highlanders commanded by Hulldown. The result was so close in fact that CM considered it a draw, and I had to review the final end position to reach a decision.
21 May 02 As promised Liebchen has written a AAR (1.1
Meg in size) , which is downloadable by right clicking here
The Vulture chick has hatched at long last :-)) Both mother and baby doing well. Father an emotional wreck !
19 May 02 Well the first game of the tournament has been completed. In Game No 1 of Round 1, the forces of TG Alexander under the command of Liebchen have obtained a Minor Victory over Schwere SS-Panzer Abteilung 101 commanded by Snakerensky. A couple of screenshots provided by Snakerenky are on the Players pages, and more along with an AAR have been promised by Liebchen.
16th May 02 No comments for the Message Forum as
yet, or inserts/pictures for the Players Pages. Good progress being
made on most games looking at the Game Progress Graph.
On a personal note, still no sign of Mrs Vulture going into labour yet, which is all rather an anti-climax after we were focussed on the 10th.
14th May 02 I have been play testing another mirror
map. Seems really good, so I will probably use it in the next round
of the tournament. I've also been looking at peoples profiles and
it has been interesting to see the spread of countries that we all come
from. Great Britain, America, Canada, Australia, France and Yugoslavia.
This makes the tournament a truly international event (chuckle).
13th May 02 Great progress is being made on several games. Game 1 Snakerensky v Liebchen is up to turn 23, which is really going some, well done guys !
12th May 02 Decided to expand the site to include two new areas. One for general messages and comments. Due to my lack of skill with web pages, I'm afraid the only way I can run it, is to place specific postings you want onto it. I have created a Players Pages area. If you want pictures, unit histories, anything in fact, just send them to me, or alternatively give me a site to link to.
11th May 02 All but one of the games has now started, and in fact as at 07:35 GMT Waleed and Villon in Game 4 have exchanged 9 turns already ! Well done guys.
10th May 02 Okay we seem to be up and running,
after a minor hiccup where I'd saved the file names too long for CM to
handle and the tournament file couldn't be opened. All sorted now
There has been a little confusion over how to report the games, and also what turn they are on. Please report the turns (don't send me the file) as per the rules. The turn number to use is not related to the game turn, but to the file that has been passed. So, if we take the start of the game, I sent the scenario out to the Heer players. When they do their initial set up, they should save the file as their name v their opponents turn 01, and send it to the allied player, who then does his set up and saves it as 02 and sends it back to the Heer player.... and so on. If we can try and stick with this then I can monitor the tournament progress. If it becomes too much of a problem, we can bin it, but humour me for a while anyway please.
On a personal note, it's now the 10th and the baby is due today, but nothing has happened as yet................
9th May 02 Bootie has joined as Major Taktik's
replacement, which is good, as we now have 20 players again. As a
result, I can officially declare the Tournament has started ! (Trumpet
fanfare at this point). The scenario has been sent out to all the
Heer players. Can I remind all players of the requirement to notify me
each time they process a turn and send it on to their opponent. Good
luck everyone, have an enjoyable first round.
8th May 02 All the force selections have been uploaded and the scenarios are ready to post out. Major Taktik who has been drawn against Wille & Joe has had to withdraw at the last minute. I have therefore decided to hold things a day whilst I see if I can can recruit a replacement. Failing that I shall post them tomorrow morning, and Willie & Joe automatically go through to the next round.
Now the tournament is about to start the rule version has been upgraded to Version 1.0. (no changes however since 0.6)
7th May 02 VonHoover and Liveline99 have uploaded their force selections, and with 20 participants, I am now declaring the tournament full. I will endeavour to upload everyone's force selections into the scenario over today and tomorrow. A minor clarification regarding how to report the games for the ladder takes the tournament rules to version 0.6.
6th May 02 The remaining players who have uploaded their force selections have now been drawn. Deleted for the moment the listing of players interested in playing, as most have now uploaded their force selections and been included in the 1st Round.
5th May 02 Started to create the scenario files today (a real ball aching job).
4th May 02 An initial draw has been made from those players from whom I have all their details (i.e. force selection and unit names). New web page added, showing the Round 1 Draw thus far. I will draw the remaining players on the 6th probably.
2nd May 02 14 players have so far advised
their force selections, out of the 22 that have expressed an interest.
As the deadline of the 7:00 on the 7th May for submitting force selections
rushes up, I have sent reminders out to the remaining 8 players.
Due to the workload involved in creating the scenarios I may do a partial (random) selection of the first games to be played, so I can get to work now. Ordinarily I wouldn't do this, but my time will shortly be at a premium, as my wife (Julie) is
expecting our first child on the 10th May. ( Panicccccccccc :-) ).
New players wishing to join in have up to 07:00 GMT on the 5th to register. After that they will be placed on a reserve list.
30th Apr 02 A 20th player has now expressed an interest, welcome along Jaeger. With only 1 week to go now until the tournament starts, hope your all practising hard.
29th Apr 02 Slightly amended the Tournament Rules (now up to Version 0.5), to provide additional clarification in a number of areas. There is a comment against the new ones and the amendments, so they can be seen at a glance. 19 players have now expressed an interest.
28th Apr 02 Finished the turn tracking spreadsheet, and adjusted this web page to cater for it. Uploaded a sample graph to see how it looks.
27th Apr 02 Started work on a Spreadsheet to track the progress of the various games. 2 more players have advised their force selections.
26th Apr 02 The Bard has been the first player to assign names to his units, and we now have 7 players who have uploaded their force selections.
25th Apr 02 Have come up with the idea of players giving names to the units they have selected i.e. Jimzalabim might select for instance 11th Panzer Div & Desert Rats etc. etc. We could then have a couple of pages for players to record their unit histories + pictures if they so wish. There can be no duplicate names, so whoever advises a particular name first, gets it. The names must be in keeping with the period, and ideally actual historical units.
24th Apr 02 As at 07:00 GMT the number of players that have expressed an interest in playing has reached 17, and of those 3 have already uploaded their force selections. Things are looking good for a really cracking tourney here :-)
23rd Apr 02 CM Commander has given the major rule revision the thumbs up. Completed the Excel spreadsheet for players to record their force selections on. Incorporated into the site for download.
22nd Apr 02 Expanded the site to
include this news feature. Will start work today on creating an Excel
spreadsheet for players to record their force selections on. Unhappy
with the Rules which were adapted from a previous set on the Blitzkrieg
site. A revised set (Draft) Version 0.4 now incorporated. Posted
off to the the CM Commander for comment.
21st Apr 02 Expanded the web site to include the tournament rules. More players signing up, 13 currently included in the listing. CM Commander reviews the rules and gives them his blessing, and uploads the address to this site onto the Blitzkrieg site.
20th Apr 02 Web site first created
and the first posting put onto the Blitzkrieg Message Board. 5 players
